Quad City Sky Bridge Struck Again
The Davenport Sky Bridge was struck again over the weekend. In fact, the two windows that will cost $3000 to replace, were broken late Saturday night, or in the early morning hours of Sunday, but somehow were not discovered until 2PM on Sunday afternoon.
My question is, how in the world did it take until 2PM to discover something that was obviously vandalized many hours earlier. After all, people go to the casino all hours of the night. People also seem to always have a cell phone glued to the ear, yet no-one thought of calling the police as they walked through a window instead of a door, and over a pile of broken glass.
The city expects the security guards from the casino to patrol the bridge. These people can't be on the bridge 24/7 - and vandals are not going to strike when they are on the bridge, they will simply wait for them to leave.
My suggestion is to install cameras on the bridge that record in 24-48 hour loops. If something happens, go back and review the tapes. After all, it is not like the sky bridge is a private place. The entire bridge is glass windows, for complete visibility. Cameras would cost less than paying guards and would be a better security measure. The evidence would be filmed, and the face on camera. If we are filmed at a gas station, at the store, at an intersection, what will one more camera hurt?
